January 31, 2010What would your diet be without caffeine?
Are you crazy? Ask that question to coffee-rich lovers and caffeine-free advocates everywhere, and you would trigger the life-long debate over the pros and cons of using caffeine in the diet.
Not that we’re crazy, but we’d just like to ponder on it a little bit more.
Caffeinated or decaffeinated…
Caffeine lovers take some leverage in how they love the beverage. What would life be without caffeinated sodas and carbonated drinks? They boost your energy and enhance your memory, they say. Morning, noon, or night, what would the day be without coffee or tea which either peps up your body or soothes your senses? After all, they have the advantage of lowering your risks for certain cancers and diseases.
On the other hand, the risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, and osteoporosis present their disadvantage. They lead a segment of the population to shun caffeine entirely, they who can survive on decaffeinated stuff. Here is an alternative way of living, caffeine-free, and it can be done.
… And in between
For those with a sweet tooth who can’t let go of coffee at all, they compromise with coffee-flavored ice creams and yogurts as well as coffee-flavored chocolates and candies. When it comes to drinks, you now have a choice between caffeine-laced drinks and caffeine-free ones. You find the former in many power colas and energy drinks for the outgoing, sporty crowd, while you find the latter with the most committed of health buffs.
Incidentally, some diet pills and weight loss supplements do contain a healthy dose of caffeine, or an unhealthy dose of it, whichever way you see it. It could have something to do with decreasing the appetite which is somehow effective in lessening the intake of calories. Seriously now, how healthy can caffeine really be?
Dependent versus independent
It’s just as funny how people still debate over whether drinking coffee is a sign of dependence or independence. Do you realize how people of all ages would react to that?
Along the line of dependence, it would be so natural to ask: Are people addicted to coffee itself or are they hooked on the positive sensations you associate with it, simply by its flavor and aroma? Well, the truth is that not many people are ready to withdraw coffee from their menu or from its usual place on the table.
Convincing you of their independent thought, the younger set has spoken up. Nowadays everyone’s into coffee shops, and they have become the trendiest places for the new generation of teens and twenty-somethings to meet and unwind. Does this mean coffee is here to stay and hang around?
Stimulating or relaxing
Some say coffee stimulates them, while others say coffee relaxes them. Could it be the mood setting or the mind setting working here? You’re too tired to debate, but pro-coffee people would still insist that caffeine lessens fatigue as a parting shot.
But do relax. We’re not crazy enough to debate about caffeine. We just found the thought of coffee pretty stimulating. For more interesting articles which discuss health and fitness trends, check out our website at http://www.topchoicefitnessarticles.com. You’ll love our ideas!
